Just like that, a new year is born!  2018 was an amazing year to reflect upon.  Our floral designs and installations were so incredible, so unique and challenged Platinum Floral Designs in more then one amazing way.  From hanging ceilings treatments to fresh wall designs, we curated mechanics that had to function in completely different ways.  Our journey brought us new relationships, threw us some pretty amazing awards (which I will talk about in a later post), features on national and international wedding blogs, and of course provided us with a highly successful wedding season which I am just so proud of and absolutely grateful.  To ring in the New Year, we're featuring some of the most incredible people we are honoured to work with, all local, small business owners right here on Vancouver Island.  To get us started, we'll be focusing on some of the leading Event Planning Companies.

Working within the wedding industry for over a decade, there are aspects of a wedding I love to look for.  One of my first questions asked, is if they are working with an Event Planner!  Planners are absolutely vital in SO many ways and often times, makes my job run just that much more smoother.  So without further delay, let me introduce you to Designer Weddings Inc.  I first met Linda (owner and lead designer) when Platinum Floral Designs was just born.  Linda was the very first company I had worked with, and I am so thrilled with their growth throughout the years. She's such a sweet and talented lady who has been come to known for their stellar transformation of ball rooms through the use of draping and lighting!  Can't recommend this company enough. Recently, they completed the event planning courses and now offer planning services.  Without any further delay, let's introduce you to Designer Wedding Rentals with our top 8 questions and a few of their favourite weddings/designs!



1. How long have you been in business and why did you choose to be an event planner? 

Designer Weddings has been in business 10 years!  (Happy Birthday to us).  We started just as a decor rental company but as time went on we found that brides needed more than just to rent decor.  Melissa (business partner/daughter) and I decided the brides deserved the best so we took a Wedding Design course, Wedding Planning course, Destination Wedding Planning course and are currently working on our Master Design Course.  We just love it!  We can now provide anything a bride would like."

2.  What makes your company unique, inspiring or different?  

"We are a family run and family owned business.  Our entire family works together including the grandchildren.  It's because we love being together.  Our company can do a lot of things that other decorators and planners don't know how to do.  We have been trained as Event Decorators and are taking our Master Decorating course. We excel at draping, rooms or tents and have the equipment to do it properly.  Our backdrops are stunning.  We can produce any style from any glamour magazine.  Mandaps and chuppa's are also our specialty. Because we carry all our own decor our brides have access to everything right up front as they are making their initial decisions and are able to see a mock up any time they want."




3.  Who are your ideal clients and why? 

"My ideal client would be a bride that says...here's what I love please make it look beautiful.  Then I can get as creative as I want and produce something truly stunning. I have lots of ideas to fit most any style.  Generally this type of bride is not working with a tight budget."


4.  Why should couples planning a wedding hire you? 

"Reality is that most brides do have a budget.  I am really good at getting an expensive look on a medium sized budget.  I know my trade, I carry all my own decor, can create custom items and can easily reproduce most any pinterest picture.  HOWEVER..I would encourage my brides not to be a carbon copy of pinterest but to add their own unique flavour to their wedding.  We work hard to please every bride and follow through on our promises and commitments."




5.  If there's one piece of advice to your prospective clientele to give, what would that be? 

"Decorators/planners can actually save you time and money in the long run.  We can work within most any budget and really try hard to stick to whatever price range we have.  We know the business, we know other great vendors and we can be a wealth of "REAL" knowledge.  Not that the internet is wrong but we know who, what, where in Victoria could be the best fit for you."




6.  Describe your design style when approaching events! 

"Great question.  We want our weddings to be a perfect reflection of the bride and her style not our particular look.  We have the skills and knowledge to create anything at all and a very large inventory which will accommodate any number of different looks.  Even if a bride likes a particular look we still encourage her to find one little piece that she can call her own."

7.  How far in advance should people contact you to work with? 

 "I would like to say the sooner the better.  Once you become engaged and have your venue chosen (we can even help you with that if you need) you should give us a call as soon as possible.  EVEN if you are the DIY type it is best to talk your ideas over with a decorator to put you on the right track and save you a lot of time.  Why should you spend time trying to source things when I probably have exactly what you are looking for right in my showroom.  Having said that, if you happen to be a "last minute bride" we can easily accommodate that as well.  We have a huge inventory so chances are we can supply anything you need."
