Wedding Vendor Feature - The Good Party, Victoria BC

Friday 12 April 2019

Well, this is a little late, but I guess they say 'better late then never'.  I had massive issues with our blogging platform for months, leaving me without the ability to get inside our platform and blog.  It was to the point, I figured, we would have to loose it and start fresh.  But enough about tech issues, let's jump right into another one of our Event Planning Vendor Spotlight features, this time around, happy to re-introduce you to, The Good Party, formerly Emma McCormick Creative.  I met Emma about 5ish years ago when I reached out to her on IG regarding a wedding we had both worked on and I had to know who she was.  We met for coffee and discussed the possibility of teaming up to offer her coined 'crafternoon' workshop series, which turned out to be a great success.  Our first crafternoon session was teaching our students how to pot up a succulent, care tips and of course each student painted their pot to suit their style.  She's come along way since our first crafternoon and she's now Victoria's, I would say, most vibrant event planning company, always pushing the limitations, growing from solo business owner to numerous lady bosses surrounding her, getting creative and opening up a box of unique ideas around every turn. So let's see what makes this team tick, and have a little glimpse into some of their previous works.

So let's get right into what makes The Good Party, well the good party!

1.  How long have you been in business and why did you choose to be an event planner?

I will have been in business for 4 years in February of 2019. I launched my company under my own name, Emma McCormick Creative, but we've recently rebranded as The Good Party. When I first started the company it was just a one-[wo]man show but now I have an amazing team of ten working alongside me!

2.  What makes your company unique, inspiring or different?

The Good Party is unique on Vancouver Island because we are truly an event planning and creative design firm. Our team of lead planners, made up of Camille Johns, Anouk Fitzner, Dakota Bateman, and myself work together to create completely customized celebrations for our clients. We are known for our amazing weddings but we also offer creative consulting for businesses, creative projects like window installations and displays, as well as event planning and production for individuals and companies who truly want to host a good party!

3.  Who are your ideal wedding clients and why?

We work with clients from all over the world who choose to get married on Vancouver Island or the Gulf Islands. Very often our clients fall in love with the beauty of the West Coast and look to our team to help them create an incredible weekend experience for their guests who travel from all over the globe to celebrate with them. We love assisting in all aspects of the planning, production, and design process and love working with clients who put their trust in our process and in our experience.

4.  Why should couples planning a wedding hire you?

Simply put, we really take the stress out of wedding planning and event production. We love to create events that are unique and customized for our clients and even when we are doing an event in a venue we've worked in before we are always pushing ourselves to do something that hasn't been done before. We love surprising our clients with special touches that they recognize as being there just for them! On wedding day we are on site from the start to the end and we take care of all the details so our clients can truly just relax and enjoy their party!

5.  If there's one piece of advice to your prospective clientele to give, what would that be?

Hire a wedding planner! Sometimes, one half of the couple is unsure about making an investment in planning services, and we ask would you build your dream house without a general contractor to oversee everything? Probably not - so, why do that for a wedding? With so many moving parts having a planner to walk you through the process is definitely worthwhile. At the very least, I'd suggest hiring a month of coordinator to be on site on the day itself to oversee your vision and ensure the days runs as smoothly as possible.

6.  Describe your design style when approaching events!

I love that our team's work doesn't fit within a particular design style. We do elegant weddings, rustic weddings, black tie weddings, and backyard weddings. While we absolutely love the opportunity to build out venues from scratch (ie. a field, a backyard, a mountain top!) we also love working in traditional settings like hotels and Vancouver Island's amazing event venues like Hatley Castle, Bilston Creek Farm, and Fort Common (to name a few!).

7.  How far in advance should people contact you to work with?

Typically our clients secure our services about a year to a year and a half in advance, but that really is flexible. We've done full planning weddings in 6 days and up to more than 2 years!
