Confessions of a Florist - Little Model with Big Headdress

Friday, 5 September 2014

Ok, apparently blogging my confessions of a florist on a weekly basis I think fell flat.  I think maybe a bit too ambitious during the incredibly fast paced wedding season.  But, here I am, I am back.... blogging another confession!

Recently, I was asked by the incredibly talented and creatively driven Jennifer Small of Discarded Couture (whom if you haven't heard of before, takes old fashions, fabrics, textiles, whatever she can get her hands on and creates one of a kind editorial dresses and the likes.  Ensure to check her out HERE - Vancouver Island has great talent) to create a floral head dress for Victoria's first Fashion Splash held downtown at the Inner Harbour.

Obviously, I said yes!  The more unique, challenging, advant garde the style, the more excited I get.  I LOVE LOVE LOVE to keep pushing the limits and not often do you get the call to create an OVER the top floral crown.

SO here's the confession.  I needed something to create the piece on.  After searching around the house for the perfect item, I came up empty handed just when my son, my beautiful son ran passed me in the hall.

I stopped him and asked "Hayden, can you help mommy with work.  I need your beautiful head and I need you to sit still and be my model."

Waiting for the response, NO WAY MOMMY.... I was surprised as he responded
"Absolutely, let's go!"

We both headed downstairs to the studio and we got to work!  He sat incredibly still, which for him, my seven year old, never sits still - a challenge for any boy.  And for a boy to wear a pink piece of fabric as I piece together de-constructed roses.... well let's just say I was in shock!

I was really SO shocked at his behaviour, I just had to ask why he was so thrilled to help mommy.

He looked at me and simply said,

"because you're creating art mommy and I want to help you"

....

UMMMMM - let's just say heart break city!

He wanted to see the progress as we created, which I am glad he asked, we kept the trusty cell phone near by to take pictures every once in a while!

We stopped at this point and I showed Hayden the progess.... again.... heart warming repsonse

"Mommy WOW, it's amazing, so beautiful Mommy"

OK Hayden, you know how to capture my heart - stop it! LOL

We took a break half through to stretch our legs and whatever else needed a break.  The piece in total took about 2.5 hrs to finish.

That evening, I told Hayden I appreciated his assistance, couldn't have done it without him!

He asked,

Mommy, can you get the glue out of my hair now.....

Oops..... sorry babe!

SO, you must check out all the talent that went into creating the first ever Fashion Splash HERE.

Here are a few final professional shots:  We loved the final product.
