Confessions of a Florist - Fall is Here and all too soon!

Monday, 29 September 2014

Fall!  As much as I love watching the change in season, the colourful leaves falling from our trees, I can't help but feel sad.  Missing the long summer evenings, the warmth of the sun, the glorious beach days and the blooming garden.  There is nothing more soothing or relaxing to me then visiting the garden each morning to see what new bloom has arrived and unfurled it's beautiful petals in such vivid colour!

However, fall has arrived and all too quickly.  I watch as the sun begins to set earlier, the fog arrives and the vege garden is pulled and put to rest with a fresh layer of mulch.  Flower seeds are saved for next years bounty. The garden is beginning to look sparce but I still have a few blooming and I count the days until first frost.

Ah!  The coveted Cafe Au Lait Dahlias are still pushing out blooms, such sweet sweet beauty.

The newly added David Austin garden roses are still blooming and just so incredible.  They stole my heart this year!

Another favourite addition to the gardens this year was Astrantia.  Next year, we'll be adding in the pink varieties and I simply cannot wait!

.... and the cosmos, self seeded from last year and kinda took over at the end of the season!

As I watch some of the last blooms bloom, I find myself already planning and planting in next years crops.  Already placing orders for the next season and digging in the tulips!

So yes, fall is here, and for me, with a heavy heart.  But, I've heard we'll have a mild winter and I'll be back out there, out in the garden I hope very very soon!  I am excited about planting in next years crop and cannot wait!

XO!
